Mother’s Day Gift Guide – The Best Zero Waste Options

Are you looking for the very best sustainable gift ideas for Mother’s day? Well, look no further! Here are some of my favourite ideas to spoil your mum this year. Remember, your mum will always rather spend quality time with you than material things, but still, it’s fun to give her a treat too!

 1. Natural Wax Candles

It is no secret that one of my favourite ways to look after myself is to have a snuggly night in with a candle. Does your mum deserve to spend some time looking after herself? Why not treat her to some lovely hand poured candles to help her relax.

Did you know that many candles are bad for your health and the environment? This is because of the paraffin wax. It produces toxic fumes and soot, similar to the exhausts of a car engine.

Natural waxes such as soy wax and beeswax have different qualities, meaning they don’t produce harmful chemicals when burn, can be vegan friendly and are a much more environmentally conscious option.

2. Ethical Jewellery for Mother’s Day

If you really fancy spoiling your Mum this Mother’s day, you could always buy her something a little sparkly! The jewellery industry has a pretty bad reputation when you start thinking about ethics, in particular (Think blood diamonds and mining!).

But it doesn’t have to be this way, I love checking out beautiful handmade jewellery, made with recycled metals. I promise not only are they good for the planet they are also exquisitely made and look stunning.

Definitely, check them out for your mumma this Mother’s day or maybe get one for yourself too!

 4. Plastic Free Flowers for Mother’s Day

Let’s be honest, flowers aren’t the most sustainable thing in the world. Many flower companies import flowers from all around the world and wrap their products in copious amounts of plastic.

But I know that for many of you, me included, mother’s day wouldn’t be the same without sending a bunch of flowers to my mum. That’s why I choose to use Bunches.com they are an ethical and sustainably focused company who provide totally plastic free flowers. Not only that, but in my experience the flowers are wonderful quality and are delivered straight to your mum!

This is a great last minute gift if you have forgotten (I promised I have remembered Mum!), as they take orders right up until Mother’s day, with the option to specify a delivery day.

As you can see I have one of these bags myself, and bought one for my mum for her birthday! I love, love love them and I think your mum might too! So if you are looking for a gift for her (or yourself OR both!) go and check them out.

These gorgeous bags from Bagabu, are all totally unique and are made using fabric off cuts. They really are the definition of a sustainable product. Gabu, the owner puts her heart and soul into each and every bag. I promise you won’t regret this purchase.

 6. Skincare

I don’t know about you, but my mum has taught me absolutely everything I know about skincare and growing up she always had her “lotions and potions”. If your mum is anything like mine, you might like to share some of this awesome zero waste skincare as a way of encouraging her to pamper herself.

Upcircle are a fantastic brand. They use food waste such as coffee grounds and apricot stones to produce some of the best skincare products I have ever used. Not only that but all of their products are plastic free and there are ‘return and refill’ options for many of their products too.

 7. Mother’s Day Chocolate

There is nothing better than a sweet treat for your sweet mumma this Mother’s Day.

Unfortunately, a lot of chocolate contains palm oil, and the industry as a whole is notorious for child labour and unethical practices. Thankfully, there are some awesome, organic, palm oil free and (sometimes) vegan options out there too! Why not pick some of these up to treat your mum.

 8. Make Up

Maybe you have a super glamorous mum, who really loves to get dressed up. If you do, why not treat her to some brand new make up to try.

The make up industry is full of animal cruelty scandals and unnecessarily wasteful packaging. This is where some of my favourite make up brands come in, namely – Zoa and All Earth Minerals. They are made of gorgeous formulations and are strongly pigmented. They are also made of awesome organic ingredients and have inovative, low waste packaging solutions. Definitely a perfect gift for a mum who loves to dress up.

Let me know down in the comments what you are going to surprise your mum with this Mother’s Day (I promise I won’t tell her!) and why not check out some of my suggestions.

If you love my blog, why not support me by making sure you are following me on my socials or if you want to go one step further why not ‘buy me a cup of coffee‘? Thank you so much in advance.
